It gives residents their own purpose-built, self-contained flat or bungalow, for sale, rent or shared ownership, with staff on site 24 hours and access to personal care, such as help with washing, dressing and eating, as needs change. Schemes typically hold between 15 and 60 homes. Because it involves personal care, a regulated activity, providers must register with the Care Quality Commission in England.
