their behalf if they lose mental capacity. There are two types: health and welfare, covering daily routine, medical care and care-home moves, usable only once the donor cannot decide; and property and financial affairs, covering bank accounts, bills and property, usable once registered. Registration, via the Office of the Public Guardian, costs £92 and takes 8 to 10 weeks.
